Jesus' life death and resurrection:

Questions / notes for groups

1
Watch the video clip: True & better. Tim Keller, the speaker, describes Jesus as the ‘true and better …” version of so many Old Testament characters, essentially the true and better human.   Who else can help us make better sense of life?

Watch the video clip: Woman at the well. You can read the Bible story on which this is based in John chapter 4, verses 1-42. This shows Jesus crossing cultural boundaries (race, gender) to reach out to someone and transform her life. Jesus ‘making sense of life’ isn’t just theoretical; what needs do you have?

Watch the video clip: Mary did you know. This song and pictures take us on a journey from Jesus childhood to his ministry as an adult. As you have worked through the material in this section of the website have you changed your view of Jesus?

The photo opposite is from a small church on the Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage route. The priest there beckoned me in, as he does with all pilgrims and explained the significance of this very unusual crucifix. He pointed out (in English, French or Spanish) that Jesus has one hand up toward God and one hand down toward human beings. He explained … “This is because Jesus is the one mediator between God and humanity.” Consider this question: who could actually make a way for us to God? [The Christian claim is that Jesus, God and man, is the only one able to bridge this gap. This he did by his sacrifice on the cross, the resurrection showing that the sacrifice had been accepted.]

5 Someone once challenged me as an atheist with these words, “You think you’re very intelligent but you’ve never really thought about it … never given Christianity a chance.” Have you really considered the evidence about Jesus’ life and, in particular, about the resurrection?
