Why are churches far from perfect?

It’s a slightly tongue-in-cheek ‘advert’ for a church …

Someone once put it like this … the church may be a divinely conceived idea but it is still run by human beings and this always means that there is scope for things to go wrong! Christians do try to live a new life in Jesus but they are a ‘work in progress’, not perfect.

If you are someone who has been hurt by people in a church, then all I can do as a church leader is to say that I am really sorry that happened to you. Maybe it happened because of a misunderstanding on their side or yours but I know that it’s also possible that someone upset you knowingly. As a person involved in mission I would say that the thing I find most dispiriting in my role is opposition or indifference from those within the churches. This should not be the case but sadly it sometimes is.

The question is – for you or for me: are you going to let this put you off or exclude you forever? If you nurse this as a grudge or an excuse you will never meet the many people who are being transformed by Jesus and who can help you on that journey too.
