What makes Jesus unique?
I have already covered some of this material under the section about Jesus’ death and resurrection but here is a summary in table form with key Bible passages and some comments:
Bible passages
Comments
Birth
Matthew chapter 1, v18-25
Luke chapter 1, v26-38
Hebrews chapter 2, v14-18
The virgin birth is important in establishing that Jesus is both God and man. Intriguingly Islam also believes in the virgin birth even though it does not consider Jesus to be God’s Son.
Death
Isaiah chapter 52, v13 to chapter 53, v12
Luke chapter 23, v32-49
Acts chapter 8, v26-39
Many men were crucified by the Romans. The important thing about Jesus’ death is that it was the sacrifice of the only truly innocent / perfect human being. The Isaiah reading prophesied it hundreds of years before Christ. Philip (Acts 8) picks this up in speaking to a man who is searching for God.
Resurrection
Luke chapter 24, v13-35
John chapter 20, v1-18
Acts chapter 2, v22-39
Jesus raised a number of people from the dead but each of them died again. Nobody else in the whole of history has defeated death forever.
Ascension
Acts chapter 1, v7-11
The disciples saw Jesus leave this Earth for Heaven. He came from Heaven and he returned there, where the Bible says he is both Lord and the one who prays constantly for us.
Second Coming
Matthew chapter 24, v36-44
1 Thessalonians chapter 4, v16 to chapter 5, v4
A large percentage of the New Testament is concerned with the fact that Jesus will one day come to Earth a second time. This will not be as a helpless baby but openly and in power.

You can look up any of the readings by copying and pasting the chapter into the search facility on the following website:
Any single one of these things should be enough to make us consider Jesus carefully. Taken together they constitute the very impressive CV of someone who claims to make a difference to the whole cosmos.
