Welcome to the TFM enewsletter.............               March 2012

John writes

John 1Recently I visited Great Shelford Free Church. This was one of the earliest places that I went on mission with TFM (1995) since joining the staff. The theme of the sermon in the series was ‘Stand firm!’ from 2 Thessalonians 2:13-3:5. One thing I encouraged them to do if they want to stand firm is to ask God … “What next?” I believe that ‘standing firm’ in the Bible isn’t just about holding the line but is actually demonstrated by us seeking always to be moving forward with God. One resource I have been using this Lent is a series of podcasts on the 24/7 website with short readings from John’s Gospel. Each of these ends with a prayer & the final line of the prayer is always, “Jesus, walk with us.” I think that’s a great image – moving forward in daily life with Jesus walking alongside, a bit like the Emmaus road story in Luke 24. So … why don’t you pray today, “Jesus, what next?” And then, whatever you sense the answer to be, “Jesus, walk with me.”

With love in Christ

Drumcree NI U-Turn mission

Roger writes...

roger at paintballing 1I had a great time in Drumcree although it was not without its challenges. This area is often mentioned in negative terms, but during this U-turn mission from the 10th to 18th March we saw over 120 responses to the gospel and many amazing stories of those who gave their lives to Christ.

To find out more about the mission see a fuller report on our website.

Peter preaching at StratfordThis picture of Peter preaching in the open air on a sunny Sunday morning was on the green outside St John’s Church, Stratford, East London in July last year. In July this year the whole world will be descending upon this green to hear the Gospel preached, because the whole world will be visiting Stratford for the Olympics.

east of england show

Chaplains needed. Could you help?

The East of England Show is to be held in Peterborough on 6th, 7th & 8th July 2012. George Martin, chair of TFM Trustees, has been involved in resourcing chaplains for the East of England Show for several years now and is co-ordinating this year’s team.

What does it involve? Essentially … being a visible presence on the showground and taking the opportunity to talk to people when they wish to make contact with a chaplain. The chaplains maintain a mobile and visible presence around the show site. George and Archdeacon Hugh McCurdy both tell me that this mobile presence has been really effective, much better than being stuck in a marquee.

TFM has been asked to provide chaplains because of our experience in one-to-one witness. If you would be willing to serve for a day, please contact George directly on: 01733 242411 or georgeandsuemartin@yahoo.co.uk
