Evidence from outside the Bible

Some people go so far as to claim that Jesus did not exist at all, even as a man. The aim of this page is to show that such a view can clearly only be based on wilful ignorance because it stands in flat contradiction to evidence from outside of the Bible. I can understand why someone might wish to dispute the Bible’s claims about Jesus but here we will look at evidence from writers who were not Christians and had no reason to support Christianity.

Watch the video: Other reports from New Testament times (7 minutes)

This initially details the writings of Tacitus, Josephus, etc. The interview goes on to examine carefully and honestly a contentious passage in Josephus. Watch this through to the end to see how the speaker makes sure he does not claim more than is warranted.

There is plenty of other material available online or in books. As the speaker says towards the end of the video, there is no academically credible historian who believes that Jesus did not exist. The question is more around who he was and what he did – issues we will consider shortly.
