Francis Collins led the Human Genome Project. He describes clearly in the above video how modern genetics confirms Darwin’s theory in a way that Darwin could never have imagined. The input on Chromosome 2 is the clinching argument for common ancestry.
 
I recommend Francis Collins’ book The Language of God, which gives a much fuller account. The language is not as technical as in the Simon Conway-Morris’ book so I think this is suitable for scientist and non-scientist alike (see additional resources page).
