This is absolutely THE authoritative book on spiritual gifts. Bold, wide-ranging, challenging and full of practical real-life examples, this book gives much food for thought and would be ideal for anyone wanting to grow personally in these areas, as well as for those in eldership or leadership positions who want to facilitate a culture where these gifts can be propagated in a fruitful and orderly manner. It would also make a beautiful gift for someone who wants to understand more about this much neglected or misunderstood area of church life. In short, a must-have for anyone wanting to deepen their Christian walk.

Inspiring! *****
Dan shares his experiences with care and humble honesty. He shares insights into the gifts of the Holy Spirit as found in Corinthians but encourages us that there is nothing He cannot do and just to be open and willing to receive whatever God has for us, the power comes from Him! After reading Dans book you get a renewed energy to go and serve the Lord!

An Essential Foundation for Christian Discipleship ****
An essential foundation for all Christian discipleship is an understanding of and a deep thankfulness for the person and work of the Holy Spirit, or maybe following Dan’s author’s note on page 1, I should remove the word ‘the’ when referring to Holy Spirit. At first, I found this grammatical approach somewhat jarring, yet it reflects Dan’s theological commitment, conviction and sensitivity to place Holy Spirit, and Holy Spirit teaching in the Biblical trinitarian context.
Overall, this book takes us on a journey, a journey in which the reader can draw from Dan’s personal experiences and the wisdom of Scripture. The book covers four deep and wide areas- Intimacy with Holy Spirit, speaking gifts, revelatory gifts and power gifts. Yet the book is never shallow or superficial, as it takes seriously the mysterious and uncontainable (John 3v8) work of Holy Spirit. This is a work which the author makes clear we should never seek to control or restrain yet we must do all we can to ‘keep in step’ (Galatians 5v25) with Holy Spirit.
I found the structure of the book to be very helpful, and this structure works well for the systematic reader and a reader who will ‘dip in’ and ‘dip out’. I think the book is particularly helpful in placing spiritual gifts in the context of ‘everyday’ evangelism. This should not be a surprise to those who know the author, and his prime calling as an evangelist.
Every careful reader will find much which will at times challenge or delight, and overall, the book will act for many as a catalyst for further study and reflection. For this reason, I would have liked some footnotes and a list of books for further reading which would aid this ongoing study and reflection.
