What if Jesus was who he said he was?

The debate about Jesus’ identity rages for one reason above all others – the magnitude of his claims about himself. If we discover these to be true, then only a fool would not decide to follow him.
When it comes to assessing what Jesus said we must read his recorded words in the Bible but this immediately raises a big area of debate. Many non-Christians claim the biblical accounts are unreliable or that the stories have grown in the telling. We will examine this and note that this convenient attack often neglects basic facts about ancient documents.
In addition we will look at some of the non-Christian ancient sources that support the Bible’s story. The Da Vinci Code will provide an opportunity to examine a popular but clearly fabricated account. I will also look briefly at Pullman’s The Good man Jesus …
Several writers have set out to demolish the story about Jesus and found themselves shocked by the unexpected reality they found (their works are cited in the additional reading). We will look at why the story of Jesus does not actually allow us to settle for a ‘respectful’ view of ‘Good teacher’ but calls for a clearer decision about the facts.
